Ten artists, some of whom have been directly affected by gun violence, have been invited to exhibit artwork in response to this issue.
Under the banner of the state motto, “We dare defend our rights,” some Alabamians are defending rights for gun ownership, while others defend rights for safety from gun violence. Yet, most Alabamians–gun owners and non-gun owners–agree on the need for mandatory background checks for all people buying guns, and barring gun sales to the mentally ill.
Known as a place where the community gathers to talk about contemporary art and current issues affecting our society, Space One Eleven seeks to have rational conversations about sensible gun laws, by building on the issues where we find common ground.
Exhibiting artist participated in a panel discussion about gun violence, moderated by Bryan Warren.
