The Extraordinary Ordinary Lives of Atheists (2014)

In the ongoing sound project “The Extraordinary Ordinary Lives of Atheists,” people are interviewed about their everyday lives, their routines, passions, family, and hobbies. These interviews are collaged with sound & music.

The goal of the pieces is to provide portraits of everyday people—living lives filled with meaning, beauty, and struggles—who happen to also be atheists. As American society diversifies, and as people accept this diversity, atheist are often not included in this acceptance. Art that humanizes nonbelievers can help.

Though the number of nonbelievers is growing, atheists are still considered the least trusted members of society. The goal of this project is to add portraits of normal, ethical people to the national conversation surrounding atheism.
