Tea Time Reflections

Tea Time Reflections documents the artist Michele Brody sharing tea with community members in The Bronx to reflect and heal from the trauma of the COVID-19 pandemic. Serving in three different locations at the Mottley Kitchen cafe, La Morada restaurant and AAA3A artist-run space, Brody invited community members to partake in a series of safe personal tea ceremonies hosted at these public spaces to share stories of managing through pandemic and photos of what they were left to see of the neighborhood while sheltering in place. These photos were later interpreted into handmade paper pulp paintings for a solo show at AAA3A where the video plays on a loop. While the community’s stories, written on re-purposed tea filters were included as part of a growing installation of hanging paper quilts to reflect back the variety of voices, languages, penmanship, poetry and stories that come together to create a unifying expression of the diversity that brings us together.
