In the Night, Everyone is Equal
The Dramatic Question Theatre develops plays by women and people of color that deal with race, culture, and class in ways that are dynamic and different. Concurrently, it builds a diverse audience from the Latinx and Black communities it regularly serves.
The Concert Presentation is a public-facing program that, along with Table Read and Review & Critique, serves as the Dramatic Question Theatre’s principal way for developing plays. While the plays participating in this program are presented as readings, they are rehearsed with a director and often have production values. By doing this, we afford participating playwrights an insight of what challenges a full production might present.
In the Night, Everyone is Equal
This play is about the acquisition of El Cruce, a Mexican border crossing themed adventure park, that pits Nikki and Jim, two newly reacquainted “friends” and their spouses against each other in a battle between the haves and have-nots. Written with a knee to the groin honesty, this dark comedy is an exploration of race, wealth inequality, and the lies we tell ourselves about choices we’ve made.
