Quarry Project

Kiboko Projects visited a stone quarry in Kenya operated by men, children and women of Kaathani village.   During interviews, workers told their stories about working in the quarries.  The land has been stripped of its top soil, making it unsuitable for farming.   The quarries can be profitable, but at a great cost to the workers and villagers.  There is a high rate of physical injuries, drug and alcohol abuse, premature death and social problems such as divorce and extreme poverty.   Kiboko Project staff and US students maintain a connection with and make visits to quarry workers to hear the stories and learn about the workers and their families.
